Not long ago, circumstances suddenly made it impossible for me to video call my mom.
She’s not very tech-savvy, so every time I tried to explain things like VPNs, proxies, or alternative apps, it just made everything more complicated—and more frustrating for both of us. Tens and tens of failed attempts to call…
I just wanted something simple.
A way to send her a link - she taps it, I tap mine - and we can see each other. No installs, no setup, no technical explanations.
That’s how this whole idea started. It wasn’t meant to be a startup or some big project. It was just a personal need - a small bridge to reach someone who matters most when everything else stopped working. By a funny coincidence, I had just been laid off, so I suddenly had some time to actually build it.
Later, I realized I wasn’t the only one facing that kind of problem. There are so many people separated by distance, borders, or digital barriers who just need a moment of connection. That’s when I decided to make it available for others too - as a simple, last-resort way to stay connected when nothing else works.
Now, it’s DirectCall.
-If you’ve ever struggled to just see someone who matters, this is for you.-
